Resting metabolic rate calculator

Resting metabolic rate is what your body spends keeping you alive: breathing, circulation, temperature, organ function. For most people it is the largest single part of daily energy use, which is why it sits under every other figure.

It rises with height and weight and falls with age. It is an estimate from a published equation, not a measurement: measuring it properly needs a lab and a fasted morning.

The equation carries a different constant for each. 'Prefer not to say' takes the midpoint.
