Changing your shopping list

By the Platify team

A generated list is yours to adjust. You can type a row on, pull an unmatched recipe line onto it, rename a row, split a combined row back into its parts, flag a row that looks wrong, and move anything into or out of Staples. All of it is part of Premium. For how the list is put together in the first place, and what to do when there is nothing on it, see your shopping list.

Adding a row by hand

Open the Add an item sheet and type what you need, like bin bags or coffee. A quantity and an aisle are both optional, so a name on its own is enough. The item joins your list alongside everything the plan put there.

A recipe line that did not match

Sometimes a recipe ingredient has no match in the catalogue, so it cannot be priced or grouped. Rather than making you retype it, you can promote it straight onto the list from the recipe's contribution, and it behaves like any other row from then on.

The Staples section

Staples holds the things you probably already have in the cupboard, so they are not competing for attention with what you actually need to buy. It starts collapsed for that reason. If the guess is wrong in either direction, open the item and choose Move to staples or Move out of staples. That choice is remembered for that ingredient and overrides the automatic grouping next time.

Renaming a row

If a row is named in a way you would never use, open it and choose Rename for me. The list then shows your name for it. The original name stays visible on the item sheet under Our name for this, so you can always see what it was matched to, and your rename is yours alone: nobody else's list changes.

When two ingredients share one row

Recipes often name the same food differently, so the list combines rows it believes are the same thing to save you buying it twice. When that is wrong, open the row and choose Show as two items, and it splits back into the separate items with their own quantities. The split sticks for that pair.

Flagging a row that looks wrong

If a row is matched to the wrong food, or the quantity looks off, open it and choose Something looks wrong. That tells us which row and what you saw, so it can be corrected at the source rather than only on your list.

A new plan starts a new list

An item you added by hand belongs to the plan you added it to. When you build a fresh plan, its list is generated from that plan's recipes, so hand-added rows do not follow it across.

Frequently asked

Does what I typed survive a new plan?

What you typed is attached to the plan you typed it onto. Build a new plan and its list starts from that plan's recipes, so anything you typed onto the old one stays with the old one.

Why is something in Staples when I need to buy it?

Staples is a guess at what you probably have already. Open the row and choose Move out of staples, and it will sit in its aisle instead, for that food, from then on.
