Progress and weight
Why did my trend go up when the scale went down?
By the Platify team
Seeing the trend line move the wrong way is annoying, but it is not a mistake. Trend weight is a smoothed average built from your last several weigh-ins, so a single low or high scale reading takes a few days to fully show up. The scale reacts instantly to water and food in your gut; the trend does not.
What is scale weight?
Scale weight is exactly what it sounds like: the raw number from your last weigh-in, shown as the paler line on your Progress tab. It moves around day to day because of water, sodium, food volume and timing, not just body fat.
What is trend weight?
Trend weight is the bolder line: a smoothed average built from your recent weigh-ins. It absorbs a single noisy reading gradually rather than jumping to it straight away, so it reads closer to your real direction over time.
Why can they move in different directions?
If your scale drops sharply for a day or two, the trend only shifts a little, because it is weighing that drop against your recent history. It can take several more low readings before the trend line catches up and turns the same way.
Which number should I actually watch?
The trend line, for judging real progress. The scale is still useful for spotting daily patterns, like how a big salty meal shows up the next morning, but it is too noisy on its own to tell you whether you are actually heading the right way.
Frequently asked
Is the trend line more accurate than the scale?
Neither is wrong. The scale shows what you weigh right now, including water shifts. The trend shows the underlying direction with day-to-day noise smoothed out, which is the more useful number for judging real progress.
Does logging twice in a day change my trend twice?
No. Weigh-ins on the same day are averaged into a single value before the trend calculation runs, so extra same-day logs do not double up.
